2.7.3. Well Volume |
This task is a tool to put well construction data and calculate volume related parameters for well hole, pipe and annular sections. List of parameters includes section volume for hole and annular sections, capacity and displacement for pipe sections. Hole section data and pipe sections should be set manually. Annular sections are formed automatically using well geometry and pipes data.

General data includes:
- Well Depth, total depth of the well and equal to the bottom depth of last hole section;
- Bit Position, depth of the bit, equal to the total length of pipe sections but can't be greater than total depth of the well;
- Washout factor, the excess volume (caused by washout of open hole) as a percentage to the theoretical volume of open hole
Calculated summary volumes include:
- Drill string volume, sum of drill string capacity and displacement;
- Drill string capacity, volume of mud inside drill string;
- Drill string displacement, volume of mud displaced from the well by immersing the drill string;
- Annular volume, sum of volumes of all annular sections;
- Hole volume, total volume of the well without drill string;
- Hole volume with pipes, volume in the well when the drill string is lowered.
To input well construction Hole Section tab is used. Type of section (riser, casing, open hole) is selected from the list of well section types. Every next section top is automatically assigned with previous section bottom value. Section volumes are computed by the program.
Diameter can be entered manual or selected from drop down list (in the next column), according selected type of hole, for user will be offered hole diameters (reference Hole Volume Table), casing pipes inner diameters (reference Pipes & Casings), riser inner diameters (reference Pipe & Casings).
To define pipe sections Pipe Section tab is used. Section outer, inner diameter and length is entered manually for volume, capacity and displacement calculation that is performed by software.
Outer and Inner diameters can be entered manual of selected from drop down list (in the column between them) related to reference Pipes & Casings.

Annular sections are automatically formed by software using hole and pipe section information.
